System ID - How to change

We're about to swap out a HPD230 for a HPD380. Basically we're doing a straight swap of the D classes plugging in all of the disks into the same place etc.

However, we're going to need to change the system id so that the installed software will still be happy. Can anyone advise us on how we do this?

I'm presuming this is exactly the same as when a main system board is changed, so there must be a method!!

Thanks in advance

Re: System ID - How to change

Hi,
You can use Ignite-UX to make the cloning and I think there will not be any problem at all. More information you can find on:

http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90837/B2355-90837_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90837/00/00/14-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90837/00/00/14-toc.html&searchterms=Ignite&queryid=20040924-055815

or there is lot of threads on itrc, like this one which I hope will solve your problem:

Re: System ID - How to change

HP UX licencing is not on System ID bases except Veritas lic.

You can use Ignite in interactive mode to make clone in new different server.

Re: System ID - How to change

Unfortunatly the licenses for the equipment that is managed by this box are based on the system id and to add to it Ignite is not installed.

This is a HPUX 10.20 installation performed by our third party software supplier about 2 years ago! So we did not have a say in what was placed on the server :(

Re: System ID - How to change

Hi Steve,

Check this doc.

http://www4.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000071551997

I believe an HP Engineer can change the sysem id for you.

Hope this helps,

Re: System ID - How to change

Exactly as the old post states.

If you are talking about changing what is displayed with "uname -i" the only way to get that done is to have an HP CE run ss_config.

There is no other command or anyone with access that can do that for you.

Re: System ID - How to change

Hello Steve,

You cannot change the System ID (SUSAN Number) by yourself, you will need an HP CE to do this. Or talk to your software supplier for changing you license.

My Thanks to all

Ok off to get some budget to pay the nice man/woman from HP to change the ID!

Re: System ID - How to change

Ignite won't change the system ID. It is hardcoded into an EPROM on the processor board and consists of a combination of the serial number of the computer as well as CPU count and model number. Only HP can change this value, and for good reason. Licensing by software ID number (uname -i) is used to prevent multiple installations on several computers. You'll need to get a new software license key from the vendor to handle the D380.

While 10.20 is obsolete and unsupported, and Ignite/UX for 10.20 has been removed. If you have 11.00 or 11.11 systems, the latest version of Ignite will still allow archiving and restoring a 10.20 client. See http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/

Re: System ID - How to change

Only an HP Customer Engineer can change the ID using a program they have called ss_config. This is done by HP to track their software. The HP CE will need to shutdown the system & boot off of a special HP only support CD so they will need time to take your server of line.
