Re: System restore using tape
I guess the ipl>sea option would give you the list of attached devices - tape included.
I used to 'hardcode' the hw path of the Tape drive into the NVRAM so that I don't need to search (Boot Option>Add Boot device - I believe)..

Re: System restore using tape
Tape is visible to the OS and I took a system backup as well.
Now i need to restore the backup using the Tape. But it doesn't show at the ISL. I already searched it using SEA , but it shows only the hard disks . No tape is visibale

Re: System restore using tape
Use the boot manager and create a new boot entry. You will find the tape there.
You can also use the "2-step" method and booting from DVD, from Ignite menu select the tape to restore.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: System restore using tape
You have to boot from the CD or DVD installation media and then point the install interface program to the tape device.

Re: System restore using tape
Shell> reconnect -r
...
Scsi(Pun3,Lun0) HP Ultrium 3-SCSI G64D (320 MBytes/sec)
...
Then go back to the boot menu, select the boot manager, add an entry, select "boot from file" and select the tape device.
Save your settings and start that newly created boot entry - let it run, it take a while.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: System restore using tape
Please note that , you are using an Integrity server, which doestn have IPL/PDC
You have EFI shell to do everything.
1. Some of the entry level servers with specific firmware doesnt support tape boot.
2. You may kindly check the tape boot support firmware/hardware list in the doc.
3. To boot above mentioned system, you should have DVD , go to advance options , you will get an option to boot from tape.
4. YOu will see errors if the versions in DVD and Ignite tape are different. ( we will discuss this trouble later if you face).
5. To check how to create a boot option and boot from the tape please refere document below.

Re: System restore using tape
However, using the steps I wrote before you can successfully boot your server from tape.
Good luck
;-)
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: System restore using tape
However, a boot from a DVD is much faster than the boot from tape.
Once booted from DVD, select
-> Install HP-UX -> select Advanced Installation -> Recovery tape -> GO!
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
