systems panics due to lan issues
We have a 1 node cluster, which we are currently expanding to a 2 node cluster.
Yesterday we plugged the 2 systems physicly together (hartbeat-lan, SCSI) without configuring any cluster issues, and the active 1 cluster node paniced twice due to lan issues.
1. panic after un-pluging the crossed over lan cable with message :
panic wait_for_lock: Already own this lock!
2. panic after diabling auto-negotitian and setting 10/half using SAM with message:
panic Data page fault
System Details:
OS : HP-UX 11.00
Model : D250/2
Memory : 688128 Kbytes
lan3 is the one with the crossed hartbeat cable.
ioscan -fnC lan:

We want to "expand" our Cluster now to a 2 node cluster and we are concerned about possible more system panics.
The current machine is productiv already.
What is or was wrong? Perhaps a patch is missing, but which?
Can somebody help pls - thx in advance

Re: systems panics due to lan issues
If you contact the HP Response Center, they can look at the q4 output from the crash and pinpoint the error.
Data Page Fault implies that you are missing patches. From your description here, it would be PHNE (network patches).

Re: systems panics due to lan issues
Similar kind of thing happened to me also. System use to panic immediately after i plug in or plug out the patch cord in NIC card.
But afterwards it use to work fine. What i observed was, the NIC card was loose inside and everytime when i use to plug cable in teh cable, it dislocates a bit and suddenly server gets panicked. I fixed it and it never happened.
Don't know if this is the case with you.
I suggest to check that one on safer side!!

You need to know a lot to actually know how little you know

Re: systems panics due to lan issues
I opened a HP Call and got the bcs_config sent.
HP will create 2 customized Patch Bundle CDs for my 2 servers resulting the output of the BCS_config.
Bharat:
I will try to check is the Card is "loose" as soon I get a downtime for the productive server.
Thx for responses.
