Take backup via fiber in MSL600 library
I am new for hp technologies, pardon me if this is something basic.
We have new DL380 G4 server and MSL600 library with a SAN 8/16 switch. We have Windows 2003 standard server and Netbackup Enterprise master media server for take backup. We have connect MSL600 library to netbackup storage server via fiber and two more servers which we have to backed up. After all this setup now we are able to take backup, but it takes 8 to 10 hours. That’s why I think the netbackup storage server are not using fiber and I want to use LAN free backup. So please tell me how can I connect my all servers and library to SAN switch and take LAN free backup. If any software or hardware neaded please tell me.

Re: Take backup via fiber in MSL600 library
Shalom,
Few things to look at here.
1) What is the network speed. If its Gigabit the backup might go fast enough via the regular network card.
2) SAN configuration. What is the speed of the HBA cards and the configuration of the Fabric switch. If the speed is substantially faster than the network then this SHOULD be faster.
3)Take a look at the firmware on the MSL and all HBA cards, and patching for Fiber Channel on the HP-UX systems. Any of these factors can significantly slow the progress of backups.
