Hello, I have OB 3.5 on a win2000 server, I backup on an autoloader 1/9 from HP with LTO tapes.
I wonder if there is a way to review the information the tape has, I know there is the objetct tab on the tape properties and there is the information on the objects that were backed up, also the verify option, but what I need is to show for an audit that there is information on the tape and that I am able to read it any time.
Is there a command line or something that I could use....
Regards.

are you asking if there is a way to use something like dd to just read a tape and see what is on it.. separate from OmniBack? Not sure on that...
If you want to show someone what is on a tape and do it quickly, then OmniBack, which has the database and all media details... will give you a list of objects on each tape from Media and Devices menu.
I would propose to the auditor that you can show them a list of the objects that are listed on a particular tape and then run a scan that will prove that this tape is accessible and passes that check. That should be OK for them. The scan physically checks the information on the tape and will not be fooled by something like a lost label... etc.

Re: Tape contents
to scan.. just select the tape you want to scan.. the autoloader should have an inventory that you can see... and select scan. It should then get loaded into the drive and report back what tape it found. Match that to the tape you listed the objects on and you have a satisfactory Audit check that is relatively painless.

Re: Tape contents
Hi,
well the best proof for an auditor would be to do a real restore.
Show them the catalog database and which version of the file is on the tape an then do a restore to a dummy directory, may be even better to do it onto a diffrent machine.
This will show them that you are able to restore the files anywhere you want.
Another option would be to do a "restore from media", which will actually scan the tape for its entire content, but may take a lot of time.
Hope this helps
