Tape drive error

I am currently using DDS3 tape drive on my HP C3000 workstation. When i am using tar -cvf /dev/rmt/0m . I am getting error all the time
Tar: end of tape
Tar to continue, enter device/file name when ready or null string to quit.

Although i put on a 24 Gb tapr cartidge init but it is giving this message only after restoring couple of blocks.
Previously i had taken around 18 Gb data in the tape with the same drive.
The only i encountered this time soon i entered the tape in the drive i started the command. after that i tried several time but the result is same.
Can any body help me in this issue.

Post the output of this command.

dmesg

If nothing else has changed, the tape drive may have failed.

Also, you might want to review which tape driver is default.

Is this the case with all media(different tapes)? Try the afffected tape out in another workstation.

It may be that the device file is corrupt.
Could you check this as well as posting the result from dmesg?

"lssf /dev/rmt/0m"
If the device file is corrupt, replace it with:
"rmsf /dev/rmt/0m"
"ioscan -fnC tape"
mksf -e -H "

or

Reboot after removing the special file.

Can you use the "mt" command to manipulate the tape? such as "mt -f /dev/rmt/0m status".
Could you also post the output from the above.
Are there any errors in the syslog.log file?
