tar foo

When I try to tar a directory on HP-UX 11i I
get the following error message near the end
of the last files in the directory:

tar cvf dir.tar dir

.
.
rw-rw---- 202/101 209723392 Oct 27 05:11 2004 edcr1p.tmp/vault_sces_index.dbf
Tar: end of tape
Tar: to continue, enter device/file name when ready or null string to quit.

If I try to look at the tar I get:

tar tvf dir.tar

Tar: error! blocksize changed

Total size of the directory is 2.5gig:
2587692 edcr1p/

Re: tar foo

You might need PHCO_28992 in case you have largefiles that are being backed up.

Patch Name: PHCO_28992 s700_800 11.11 tar(1) cumulative patch

Re: tar foo

Have you run past the end of a tape or filled the disk?

Do you have the tar patch that allowslarger files?

Is the filesystem you are writing to set up for largefiles?

Re: tar foo

Sounds like you need to use GNU tar or patch your HP version - 2GB limitation.

Check out patch:

Re: tar foo

Hi Jerry,

test if you have largefiles enabled.
Check which volume you use, then:
'fstyp -v /dev/vg??/lvol? |grep -i f_flag'

If f_flag = 0 then you have 2 GB max,
if f_flag = 16 then you have 8 GB max

Regards
Volkmar

P.S.
First solution could be, to give a second file name, so tar file will be splitted.
