Hi,

You can get pre-compiled tcp_wrappers from the HP's porting center.

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Networking/Admin/tcp_wrappers-7.6/

You can also use /var/adm/inetd.sec file that wraps inetd without using tcp_wrappers.

Thanks, Kiran & Sri. I might as well choose the one that Sri has advised.. editing the /var/adm/inetd.sec file.

Sri, do i still need to edit the /etc/inetd.conf & /etc/services ..i.e. hashing the ftp service while i have an allow entry of ftp in the /var/adm/inetd.sec. Thanks in advance

Hi OSLO,

If you think you'll need to take the security down to the granularity of usernames, Then you'll need tcp-wrappers. inetd.conf & inetd.sec cannot do that.

My 2 cents,

In addition to Jeff's notes:
Go for SSH,RSA public-private keys authentication if you want user-based and not
hosts based check.TCP wrapper has some sort
of protection against host spoofing while inetd.sec doesn't.
