Telnet does not connect at first time
hi
We are facing a problem with servers (HP-UX 11.23) in the DMZ. When ever we are trying to connect the server using telnet (From local LAN), it waits for few seconds then disconnects saying that connection time out.But when we are trying it again, it gives the login screen. The servers are connected through foundry load balancer. According to the load balancer and firewall people, the problem is with server. We have this problem with all the servers in DMZ. But if we are trying it from inside DMZ. The connection establishes at the first attempt.
Is there any tcp paremeters I can change to establish the connection at first time.
Please help.

Re: Telnet does not connect at first time
Shalom Sreejith,
Problem is with ALL servers in the DMZ.
See the firewall administrator.
Its probably not any single system.
DMZ is a secure environment. You should stop using telnet and its clear text authentication and use secure shell (openssh).

Re: Telnet does not connect at first time
I agree with Steven, you should use ssh instead of telnet.
But if the connection times out on all servers, this is likely a balancer or firewall issue.
Another reason could be a wrong routing.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Telnet does not connect at first time
Since you seem to be dealing with a group that is reluctant to troubleshoot the problem ("not our problem -- your server is bad"), download a copy of Wireshark and WinPcap so you can tyrace the connection failure. Then give the results to the networking group. My guess is that all telnet connections between machines that are local (not going through the firewall) are just fine.
