Test the disks for SCSI-3 persistent reservations support.

Hi All,

I am having some external luns (disks) allocated to a SUSE linux server. I want to test whether they support SCSI-3 persistent reservations support. Is there any command to check whether the disks are scsi-3 or scsi-2?

Please inform.

Thanks and Regards,
Prasad.

Re: Test the disks for SCSI-3 persistent reservations support.

You did not mention your SuSE version, so it's rather hard to give detailed advice.

The sg3-utils package (probably in SuSE's standard package collection) contains an utility named sg_persist. It has a "--report-capabilities" option which apparently can tell you whether the persistent reservations are supported.

As an alternative, there is a "sdparm" command which can be used to find out more than you ever needed to know about your SCSI devices. Unfortunately understanding the options and the output of this command requires some familiarity with the SCSI standards (read: it apparently can find the information you need, but I can't quickly figure out exactly how to make it do that).

If this command is not available in SuSE's package collection, the source is here:
