Re: The Backup server
Hi,
We may be talking of different type of backup server depending of the context:
1) a backup server can be the one that replaces a main server in case of crash or big maintenance
2) I could be an Ignite server
3) It could be a true "backup" server, a server that runs a backup product which has its own database (of backups and server to backup) such as TSM or omniback...
These servers usually have a big pool of disks to backup on (you could see this as buffers) before transferring to tape devices...
All the best
Victor

Re: The Backup server
Victor is correct,
There are three socalled back-up servers
DR server (dynamic reconfiguration) in case of a disaster.
Ignite boot server, to boot reinstall servers.
Backup server with client server software (omniback Legato etc etc) all clients use the server for backup/restore.
Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan
