The use of DCE and NCS

Dear collegues,

Can any one please explain me the purpose of these services? As I found OpenView Perfomance software uses it in some way, because when I shut down rpcd, command "mwa status" complained about nonactive "dce llbd or rpcd". But I can still use OV Perfomance Manager and OV Perfomance Agent seems to be still working. Can I block this service completely? I just dont want to dig arround dce security and want to solve this problem turning it off.

Thanks

Re: The use of DCE and NCS

if you are using OV operations <8.0 it will not work without those things running. can't comment on version 8.0 because they changed the agent architecture to some extend (and i haven't used it yet).

it's is true though, it is a braindead idea, i have always disliked the use of these processes as well.

Re: The use of DCE and NCS

Thanks,

So, if I use only OV Perfomance Agent and Perfomance Manager, I need not DCE? As I realize they are not part of OV Operations.

Re: The use of DCE and NCS

As I found DCE is nesesary for getting perf data from machine - it seems to serve like datasource for Peromance Manager.
