tool in comparing 2 HPUX system
Does anyone knows if we have a tool that can be use to compare two systems? Basically, the objective is to make sure that the test system is identical with the Production system in terms of kernel parameter settings, patches, config...etc..
Thanks,
chris

Re: tool in comparing 2 HPUX system
Many possible choices through various scripts
and readily-available tools.
Some possibilities:
Cfg2html http://come.to/cfg2html
HP Shell script "collect" or cpm_collect"
HP Shell scripts "sysinfo" (do not mix it with Magnicorp's commercial package!)
Sourceforge SysInfo-DC for HP-UX http://sourceforge.net/projects/sysinfo-dc
HP Ignite's "print_manifest"
HP Shell script Nickel http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsub/cache/286022-0-0-225-121.htm
HP System Insight Manager (SIM)
HP System Health Check (SHC)
and many more...
Personally, I use my own method because
I am looking for many things that I consider
important to collect when I run projects
or build servers:

If you search this Forum, it is guaranteed
you will find many more ideas.

Re: tool in comparing 2 HPUX system
I am looking for a tool that can compare the output of some configuration collection tool of the 2 systems. I am familiar with Some of the tools you mentioned, but they are run to get configuration of each system. What I want to achieve is to compare the two outputs and immidiately get the differences automatically.
regards,
Chris

Re: tool in comparing 2 HPUX system
Take a look at Cfengine. Very powerful (maybe
an overkill for your small environment):
http://www.cfengine.org/
In the simplest form, you could run
print_manifest on two servers and do
diff(1) between the reports. With a bit
of Shell scripting it can be automated :)
I am sure there are other possibilities.
My mind is in weekend-mood so I might
be missing some obvious choices.
Cheers,

Enterprise Edition) from HP...
A new product from HP (to replace ISEE)
is HP Service Essentials Remote Support Pack.
It has some remote configuration collection
capabilities in the current release.

Re: tool in comparing 2 HPUX system
HP System Insight Manager:
Snapshot comparisons. HP SIM enables you to
compare configuration snapshots of up to four
different servers or configuration snapshots of
a single server over time. This functionality
assists IT staff in pinpointing configuration
issues that can contribute to system
instability. Snapshot comparisons can also be
used to save a picture of a standard configuration for comparisons to other systems.
