Re: uhm!! Can I post something on AIX here

Try to convert the clients from AIX to HP-UX! We've succeeded in that for two customers already :)

AIX is still a PITA, but one gets used to it. Learn smit.

Re: uhm!! Can I post something on AIX here

Hi (again):

Merijn's makes a very good point. AIX's 'smit' [SAM's counterpart] does a very good job logging its actions and results in files called 'smit.script' and 'smit.log.' These are very helpful when you want to see the commandline equalivent -- better than SAM, in my opinion.

Re: uhm!! Can I post something on AIX here

And AIX comes with online JFS installed, not an extra cost item as with HP.

but I have to setup alias for ll and bdf, and still looking for a few other things

I sure miss swinstall.

www.rootvg.net does not cover it all, it would be good to have a place to look for differences and what to do to fix them

and I hate the process of booting from a CD, what an adventurous nightmare that was trying to figure it out with no training and no manuals and the IBM website was not much help either

Hi,

a good discussion mailing list for Tivoli Storage Manager of IBM can be found at:

http://search.adsm.org/

Less user friendly than the ITRC forums, but a great source of information.

Re: uhm!! Can I post something on AIX here

No points for this, I just wanted to point out a site that everyone seemed to miss for some sad reason.

www.ugu.com

Unix Guru Universe is a great site, has links for all known unices, lots of info.

I use it to find things when I have no idea what else to do.

John,

Hehehehe....yes...I kind of cheated - or just lucky - we have an AIX admin onsite and we have those links posted on our Intranet.

And yes - we do have "running" battles on HP vs IBM...etc...etc...
:)

Just found these myself as I have also been thrust into the AIX side kicking and screaming with no training and no manuals.

I have to recommend nmon as I have been searching for something that resembled top on AIX. Why o why was top not included?

Geoff,

No offense intended, but the replies without points were assigned after he gave a magic bunny. There is no way for a user to close a thread.

I view it as a fine diner offering you dinner mints after you paid your bill and left the tip. Would you expect them to say "pay up" afterwards?

Re: uhm!! Can I post something on AIX here

Shannon,

Yes that's true - but you can still assign points after you give out a 10 - and there is more than 1 in this thread - which never closes...

Re: uhm!! Can I post something on AIX here

Geoff, the thread not closing is not the problem of the person asking the question, but a problem with the forums.

The user did their job, assigned points and said thanks. Hence why I added that I dont want points.

For other users to say "assign points" after the question author did their job is not fair.

I usually find requests for points distastefull anyway, but in this case it was also uncalled for.

Re: uhm!! Can I post something on AIX here

John,
For top, you should get monitor that includes a "top" command almost similar to top...
The last version I know of for aix 4.3.3 is monitor2.1.9

Re: uhm!! Can I post something on AIX here

Shannon - I agree with what you said - except one small point - the author did not say thanks/or give a closing statement...so, myself (and others) assumed he still wanted more answers....
