Unix Conventions

Eventhough I have been in IT for quite a while last year was my first time attending one of the bigger Conventions (Interop, Las Vegas). What are some other conventions (especially on the west coast) that are worth attending?

Re: Unix Conventions

If you work with HP in any way, HP World in SF, this coming August is a good idea.

Re: Unix Conventions

Thanks SWP.
I have ran a UNIX server for 9 years.
It always seemed that this one was back east before. I have never seen it on the west coast before.
I was checking out the website. It says that they have speakers. Do they have individual seminars on topics? similar to Interop? I did not see a schedule. I might only get to go there a couple of days.

Re: Unix Conventions

They have many seminars and classes on various topics. HP-UX, Windows, Linux, SAN.

There are even hands on classes.

Plus you can meet folks like Pete Randall, sit with them, have a beer and pick their brains.

Though my situation is currently in flux, I'm hoping to be able to be there to present two topics.

Re: Unix Conventions

Yes Hands on Classes. That is what I was getting at. I am going to see if I can pull my name off of Interop and go here instead.

thanks again SEP

Re: Unix Conventions

John,

There is also the LinuxWorld expo in SF at Moscone Center. I think that's in August or Sept. Usenix also puts on a bunch of different seminars, usually on the west coast.

Check out www.usenix.org for more info.

Re: Unix Conventions

HP is also running their own convention, separate from HPWorld, this year in New Orleans in September. Darned if I can remember the name of it though. I'll go searching!

Re: Unix Conventions

Hopefully Usenix will put on one in SoCal soon. I will try and find time to check out this site more in depth.
Thanks for the info on the HP conference in New Orleans. I got the okay to attend one of these instead of interop this year. As soon as I see the classes offered at each I will decide which one I want to attend.

Thanks again everyone... If anyone knows of any other well worth conventions let me know.

Re: Unix Conventions

FYI, USENIX in southern CA is coming up in Anaheim at the beginning of April 05. I have received the booklet in the mail but it's home right now. So I do not have the details about exact dates and time. I am sure usenix.org website is full of useful info.

Re: Unix Conventions

John,

For what it's worth, I would recommend HPWorld over the HP Technology Forum. Interex works hard to keep it free of vendor influence and, while HP will undoubtedly put on a good show, the information available at HPWorld is always top notch.

On the other hand, if you've always had an urge to see New Orleans, then . . . .
