Unknown process, belongs to root, consuming resouces...

Hi,
I found, the process "dmisp", running since long time, consuming cpu.
What process is this?
If I just kill it, will there be any problem?

please ....

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

No need to kill it unless the stop/start routine script doesn't work. You can stop the daemon by using this:

# /sbin/init.d/Dmisp stop

Have a look at the man page for it's intended usage. This process is part of the operating system and therefore starts automatically when your system boots.

The last time that happened to me the DMI database was suspected to be corrupted. Check the file /var/dmi/log/dmisp_log, see if you can spot any unusual error. If you don;t see any "weird" error it's okay to go ahead and restart DMI..
# /sbin/init.d/Dmisp stop
# /sbin/init.d/Dmisp start
Monitor to see if the 100% utilization come back or not. If it still happened, I suggest you log a call o HP response center for futher action. BTW I ended up stopping dmisp, remove my DMI DB in /var/dmi/database and restart dmisp and the problem never came back.

Re: Unknown process, belongs to root, consuming resouces...

Hi,
In the log file, "dmisp_log", the following error is reported,
swci [1070] ERRRO: Could not register swci with DMI SP, rc:211.
ERROR: swci Cound not register with SP, rc:203.

Note: The above error was reported when the system was rebooted.

Is it ok, to go ahead with stop and restart the daemon, "dmisp"?

please ....

Thanks & Regards
Syed
