Unmounting FS and unlinking File

1.When I tried to unmount the FS, I'm getting th following msg. cannot umount /xyz: Block device required.
2.I have the following situation.
My mount point is linked to a file with same mount point name
ex. If my mount point is /xyz there is a file xyz linking to /abc/def. I tried to remove the link by using unlink command. It removed my FS and the file. How can I get it back.
How can I unlink the rest of the files. I need urgetn help

Re: Unmounting FS and unlinking File

Hi Bobby,

Hopefully you didn't clobber the . or .. filesystem entries. If I understand what you did, this should get you back on the right track.

1) Create a new mountpoint directory: e.g./mydir
2) edit /etc/fstab and change the mountpoint
to /mydir

3) Reboot

This should now mount the filesystem under /mydir. (You may need to do a fsck although it should be invoked automatically.)

You should then be able to fix any problems.

Regards, Clay
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
