Update vPars system to 11i v2

I have an RP7420 with two vPars - both running 11i v1. I believe the vPars software is 11i V2 Dec 04 release A.03.03.

I need to do a cold install of HP-UX 11i v2 March '06 release in just one of the two vPars. Two questions:

1. Must I update the vPars software to the 11i v2 March release - A.04.02 ? Or can I leave it alone and just install 11i v2 March in the existing vPar as if it was an ordinary non-virtual system?

2. If a vPar upgrade is required, in what order should these things be updated/installed?

Any pointers to things I probably should have already read welcome. I'm under time constraints after inheriting the RP7420 from a former colleague and as usual no time for training and very little time for reading!

OK, I've done a little reading and found that:

vPars A.03.xx only supports 11i v1 and 11i v1 requires vPars a.03.xx.

vPars A.04.xx only supports 11i v2 and 11i v2 requires vPars a.04.xx.

Looking at "Updating from vPars a.03.xx to A04.xx with Update-UX" in the manual, it seems I can update it in place. Following that, I would presume I can just proceed with the HP-UX 11i v2 update? It won't matter that I'm briefly running 11i v1 on vPars A.04.xx ?

Never mind... I see the updating routine updates both HP-UX and vPars at the same time.

OK, now that I know exactly what has to be done, has anyone actually done this upgrade of vPars and HP-UX using the March 2006 distribution and lived to tell about it? Is it safe? Effective? Recommended?

It's up to you to decide if and why upgrade from 11i v1 to 11i v2. It depends on your applications.
In fact you have to upgrade all your vPars. To do this, start every vPar as standalone, upgrade or cold-install 11i v2 and upgrade/install the vPar software. After installing all vPars, start the vPar environment (/stand/vpmon) again.

Not sure but I do not think you can mix HP-UX versions and vPar versions.

Since my last post yesterday I've understood that both upgrades are required at the same time, as the procedure in the PDF file states. There's no further question on that.

And I know my (Oracle) applications environment supports 11.23. I am doing this prior to installing Oracle.

Just looking to hear of any war or success stories from anyone who has actually done this upgrade (11.11 to 11.23) using the March distribution.
