upgradation of HP UX
Can any one give me the steps in upgrading the HPUX 11.00 to 11i, without losing the data.
I have B2000 and B2600 models.
Thanks in Advance

Re: upgradation of HP UX
make two make_tape_recovery's, and then two full system backups.
cold install 11i (11.23), then restore your data, recompile or upgrade your applications and you are done.

Re: upgradation of HP UX
1) See if your applications are supported and can be upgraded to 11i v1 or 11i v2. If they can not, stop. The biggest issue with this upgrade isn't the fact that the OS upgrade fails often, its the lack of vendor support for your applications.
2) You should consider a path where you back up your data, do a cold install and then install all your applictions, followed by a data restore/conversion as needed.
What appliations are involved?

Re: upgradation of HP UX
If dont have a tape drive make a network IGNITE from one of your servers. As long as you have ignite backups you can restore normally from you file servers.
Check the IGNITE document.

Also check the thread below for remote backup.

Re: upgradation of HP UX
If you don't have a tape drive on the server, you will have to use make_net_recovery but please make sure that after the make_net recovery, you are able to restore it to a server since there have been instances when the recovery archive cannot be restored.
I am sure if this server is so important to you, you are doing some kind of backups ( SAN based or Network based) please provide more details on your setup and what is forcing you to upgrade.
thanks
