Help! I have a single HP-UX server with no CD-ROM, with HP-UX11.00. I have the Mission Critical Operating Environment for HP-UX 11i, but the only remote system I can use is AIX. I can't seem to get anything to work (swreg and swcopy do not like me, it seems). I have tried NFS sharing the CD; copying the CDs to a single local directory; to multiple local directories; no luck -- either it says no depot files at that location or that the depot is empty. What can I do? I am up against a deadline (of course).
An ounce of pretention is worth a pound of manure.

Re: Upgrade HP-UX with Remote (AIX) CD
What kind of HP server do you have? Could you move the CD-ROM from the AIX server to the HP-UX server?
What are the chances...

Re: Upgrade HP-UX with Remote (AIX) CD
I have an A400 HP 9000. No, the DVD reader is internal to the AIX box, and we do not have authority to dismantle it.
I could buy a reader for the HP if absolutely required. But $400 or more to read 3 CDs once seems a bit much. Are there any other options at all? (I am proficient in Windows, Linux, and Solaris, but new to HP-UX).

Solution
No options for using a CD on a system other than a HP-UX system running ignite UX.
I'll try to explain a bit of why...
The OS load procedure requires the HP to boot a base kernel.
While booting from a remote ignite server, you can gain basic TCP/IP functionality, and using tftp get a small kernel.
Ignite controls this process, telling the client what to load and download. A linux box does not understand HP-UX. So while being able to give the basic networking info, could not give a primative kernel to boot and instruct the system to boot it.
You have only the option of a 2nd HP system running ignite, or a CD-ROM attached to the HP needing the OS.
Regards,
Shannon.
P.S. An external non-hp scsi tape drive in an enclosure with a tape should be available for less than 200.00 used.
