Upgrade OS to 64bit

Hi all,

My customer are using HP-UX 32bit running on K-Class. Are there anyway to upgrade to 64bit?

Thanks for your help,
Trung

Re: Upgrade OS to 64bit

It depends upon the model; It needs to be at least a KX50 or above. A few of the K-boxs used the 32-bit PA-7200 processor (e.g. K220) but most used the 64-bit PA-8000. Those K-boxes which have a 64-bit processor can run 64-bit 11.x.

Run this command:
getconf HW_CPU_SUPPORT_BITS

If it reports 32/64 then your K-box can run either. Many K-boxes require a firmware upgrade before doinhg the OS upgrade.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Upgrade OS to 64bit

Hi all,

Thanks for your info.
Do we need uninstall all 32bit Apps before upgrading? Or Can we uninstall them after upgrading?

Thanks,

Hi all,

Do I need uninstall MirrorDisk? Is it applicable for 64-bit?

Re: Upgrade OS to 64bit

You do not need to remove any application software, including Mirror/UX as part of the upgrade process.

See Procedure to Convert between 32-bit and 64-bit OS http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B3782-90728/00/00/52-con.html

Step 4: /usr/sbin/swinstall \
-x logdetail=true \
-x autoreboot=true \
-x match_target=true \
-x reinstall=true -x reinstall_files=true \
-x os_name=HP-UX:64 -x os_release=B.11.00 \
-s /SD_CDROM

See all steps on this page. This is Step 4 which is done after the Operating System has been converted to 64 bit.

Re: Upgrade OS to 64bit

Hi

A list of K servers, which can run 64 bit:

Re upgrade: IMHO, installing from scratch is much better. Don't make trouble for yourself by such an upgrade.

Good luck.
