Upgrade Query

Hi,
I am planning to upgrade a number of workststions from HPUX 10.20 to HPUX 11 very soon. I am doing a fresh install on each host. My query is - should I upgrade straight to hpux11i from 10.20, or stick with the hpux11 upgrade? Is there a recommended upgrade path?

We have a number of old HP C,B,J class workstations, they run engineering/CAD software.

thanks,
Jim

Re: Upgrade Query

Lets put it this way, you do not need to go to 11.0 in order to get to 11i. So I would recommend upgrading straight to 11i. You have the flexibility to go with 32 or 64 bit anyway with 11i and after all 11.0 is consider quite old already (been around since 1997). And FYI 10.20 will be obsoleted in 2003.

Re: Upgrade Query

Of course you would want to make sure your application runs on the new OS.

Re: Upgrade Query

If it were me, I would bypass 11.0 aand go to 11.11 (11.11 is non-marketing speak for 11i).

If you have applications which specify 11.0 but not 11.11, I am almost certain that you will have no problems. I've yet to find anything other than kernel intrusive code that will run on 11.0 but not on 11.11.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Upgrade Query

Install Ignite UX in one of them.
Create a Ignite Tape and install all the Workstations through that tape.

Or

Create a golden image through ignite-UX and do an installation through network.

Re: Upgrade Query

Thanks everyone,
I'll go straight to 11.11 if our CAD applications are up to it.
