Upgrade Serviceguard from OS OE bundle
Hi,
I am planning to upgrade a 2 node cluster from 11.00 to 11.11 in two steps: first weekend I plan to upgrade serviceguard from version A.11.09 to A.11.16, second weekend I will upgrade OS. I was suggested to have Serviceguard upgraded before upgrading the OS, that is why I need to do this previous serviceguard upgrade before the OS upgrade. We won't use cold install, we will use update-ux instead.
I do not have serviceguard as an independent product, instead I have the OS bundle HPUX11i-OE-MC which is supposed to have serviceguard included. Is it possible to extract serviceguard from this bundle as an independent product and install ?
What about license for new version of serviceguard ?
I will appreciate your answers.

Re: Upgrade Serviceguard from OS OE bundle
Shalom,
You need a new plan.
The upgrade of the OS will wipe out the SG update(Probably). update-ux is so unreliable I never use it.
Better plan:
Cold install the OS onto one of the two nodes of the cluster.
Get all patches installed, install SG A.11.16.
Install all other applications SG was managing.
Transfer your cluster scripts, and config to the new node.
DOWNTIME.
Bring up all services on the newly upgraded node. There will be some pain as the secuiryt model for A.11.09 is totally different than A.11.16.
Repeat the steps above without downtime to the node that was not upgraded first.
This minimizes risk and downtime.
Other questions:
Extracting SG, yes.
License: As long as you have a software contract, not changes or charges for the upgrade.

Re: Upgrade Serviceguard from OS OE bundle
Steven,
The question now is how do I extract SG from the bundle HPUX11i-OE-MC ?
The plan is to use update-ux, this has been approved and we cannot change plan.

Re: Upgrade Serviceguard from OS OE bundle
As long as I can see the bundle or product in swinstall, it is possible to install it without codeword.
Codeword will be asked to be inserted as long as there is protected software in the CD, otherwise you cannot see the protected bundles in the CD.
