Upgrading from Oracle 8i to 9i- assistance!

Hello

I need some assistance.
Soon we will be upgrading from Oracle 8i to 9i.

Can you explain what is involved to upgrade on an N class server running 11i?

Thanks.

Re: Upgrading from Oracle 8i to 9i- assistance!

hi,

1. if you feel uncomfortable with this then have the migration done by someone experienced
2. You can only upgrade to 9i from Oracle 8.1.7. So if required first upgrade to Oracle 8.1.7 (you can skip Oracle patches as this is just temporary)
3. check your system for the required HPUX patches (see the Oracle 9i installation manual, or try a searh in ITRC)
4. install Oracle 9i software + Oracle patches (9.2.0.5?) in a new ORACLE_HOME
5. have a very good backup or you original DB, or even better duplicate your database (very simple with RMAN).
6. shutdown the Oracle 8 DB
7. set you environment for Oracle 9i (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, PATH, initxx.ora, ...)
8. migrate your DB to Oracle 9i (see the Oracle 9i Migration Guide for all required steps, or other walkthroughs you can find on the net, for all required steps
9. backup your new DB

good luck,
Thierry.
All unix flavours are exactly the same . . . . . . . . . . for end users anyway.
