Upgrading HP-UX from 10.20 to 11.0

HI,

While upgrading from 10.20 to 11.0 It was exited with following errors:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compiling /stand/build/conf.c...
ar: btlan3_dbg.o not found
*** Error exit code 1

Stop.
make failure.
ERROR: The command "/usr/sbin/mk_kernel", which is used to rebuild
the kernel, has failed. Because kernel-related filesets were
installed, this command must be executed by "swinstall",
without failures, before the load can continue. Check the
above output for details about the failure.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can anybody please tell me what are they and how can i resolve this..
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Satish.

Re: Upgrading HP-UX from 10.20 to 11.0

I just had this problem on a K420. There are two reasons this could occur. One, you might be trying to load a 64 bit version on a box that cant handle it. If the last two digits of the model is under 50, like k420, then you can't. Also there is a patch that you need to remove that causes a kernel build error, PHKL_16499. Did you remove all 10.20 patches before updtaing? I cleared up my problem by loading the 32 bit version. Bob

Re: Upgrading HP-UX from 10.20 to 11.0

Some time ago I had a similar error when upgrading. I cannot remember the exact error that came from the kernel rebuild. The problem was the swinstall command I was using to do the upgrade. On page 43 of the manual "Installing HP-UX 11.0 and Updating HP-UX 10.x to 11.0" it says to enter the command "swinstall -x os_name=HP-UX:32 -x os_release=B.11.0". If you do this it will appear that it is all going well but the upgrade will soon fall over when rebuilding the kernel. This is due to a misprint in the manual. The command should have been "swinstall -x os_name=HP-UX:32 -x os_release=B.11.00" (note the extra 0 at the end).
