Upgrading to 11i V 2 and at the end I am getting the following error regarding VX_NCSIZE.

ERROR: The tunable 'VX_NCSIZE' does not exist. It may be misspelled or obsolete.
Unable to compute all tunable values.
ERROR: The kernel build failed. See the /var/adm/sw/swagent.log for details.
Do not attempt to reboot the system before the new kernel is successfully built.

How do I get rid of this tunable / rebuild kernel without it?

I would try removing the vx_ncsize line in /stand/build/system or in /stand/system.
"The difference between me and you? I will read the man page." and "Respect the hat." and "You could just do a search on ITRC, you don't need to start a thread on a topic that's been answered 100 times already." Oh, and "What. no points???"

Shalom,

First mistake: upgrading.

Do a cold install of the OS and do not rely on the unreliable, e.g. upgrade-ux.

This is the recommendation of experienced admins on HP-UX including myself.

The parameter is obsolete as of V2, and can be ignored / deleted.

All kernel parameters are subject to change from release to release, so go through them all carefully.

Having done an 11.11 to 11.23 upgrade on PA-RISC (N4000) last year... I can promise you a nightmare. I worked side by side with an HP engineer for 2 weeks to get the kinks out of the upgrade process. Some tips:

1- Remove ALL formulas in your kernel & set static values

2- If running SecurePath, Uninstall it & ULM_Service before upgrading

3- Make sure these users:
uucp:*:5:3::/var/spool/uucppublic:/usr/lbin/uucp/uucico
nuucp:*:11:11::/var/spool/uucppublic:/usr/lbin/uucp/uucico
and GROUP settings:
sys::3:root,uucp
nuucp::11:nuucp
Exist in ADVANCE

4- Remove these before upgrade:
a. Bastille
b. Online Diagnostics
c. ISEE
d. OVO

Best of luck to you

If there is any way you can do a clean install, or a parallel build, I recommend you do so instead of updating. I spent 29 hours straight at the console before I finished this successfully. TAKE IGNITE IMAGES AFTER EVERY MAJOR STEP!!! You'll thank me later.

The only way I was able to remove vx_ncsize kernel settng is after the upgrade.
