I'm planning to upgrade a K460 server from hpux10.20 to 11.
I've read in many forum messages that is better to do a cold install.
I would like to know how i can do this without loosing the LVM configurations, existing file systems and other configurations.
What have i to backup and restore after the new install (beside user data)?
Thanks
Chiara Fregonara

Solution
LVM config restore can be done at least 2 ways:
1. use vgcfgbackup for each VG, save the config files, then restore them and do vgcfgrestore.
or
2. Export the vgs using vgexport -p -s -m vgxxx.map vgxxx and then after upgrade, do ( mkdir, mknod) and vgimport -m vgxxx.map vgxxx.
This works for anything else except vg00. Somebody else might help you with an extensive list of config files you want to copy from 10.20. Most of them are located in /etc directory. A quick list would be /etc/services /etc/passwd /etc/hosts /etc/inetd.conf /etc/rc.config.d depending on what kind of applications you run.
Another thing to have in mind is device drives and tunable kernel params.

Re: Upgrading to HPUX11 and LVM
Sorry for the typing error !
Please replace
vgimport -s -m vgxxx.map vgxxx
with
vgimport -m vgxxx.map vgxxx.
It should look like:
2. Export the vgs using vgexport -p -s -m vgxxx.map vgxxx and then after upgrade, do ( mkdir, mknod) and vgimport -s -m vgxxx.map vgxxx

Re: Upgrading to HPUX11 and LVM
Chiara,
Have a look at this thread for more information on files to back up and things to do prior to upgrading or doing a fresh install of HP-UX 11.0
