USE of HP-UX default spooler for Network printing.

Hi All,

Can anyone inform me; is it possible to use HP-UX (11i) spooler to print in network printer?

And is there any limitation on print spooler queue size??

Suppose due to some reason, the printer get halted and you have print jobs in spooler queue, then after printer resume printing once again, will it take the print jobs automatically from the spooler or we need to put the print jobs once again in the spooler.

Also can anyone tell me what is the default spooler type/name for HP-UX 11i server (for example, whether it is BSD spooling system or SVR4 spooling system)

Any answer to all my above questions will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards,
Sundeep.

Yes, you can use the lpspooler to print to network printer. Use the JetAdmin to configure the printer for the system.

If the printer halts, print jobs will stay in the queue until you clean out. So if spooler starts again, all jobs in the queue will print.

Re: USE of HP-UX default spooler for Network printing.

Rick,
Thank you for your reply.

Then is it possible to set the network printer dynamically to the spooler. Means my GUI will take the printer informations from the user and will process the information to set/installed the printer in spooler. Please note the the application which is capturing the printer information is a j2ee application. and I want to invoke commands directly from my the application. And the application don't have root access.

Thank you.

All you do is configure the printer from HP-UX as a Network printer. That will make HP-UX print "raw" to it - so whatever you do from the application will pass through to the printer.

That's what I do for SAP.

Install hppi

Re: USE of HP-UX default spooler for Network printing.

Hi Sandeep

Functionality of spooler is same whether the printer is connected directly to server or is in network. So if netowrk printer gets halted, jobs will stay in queue and resume printing once printer is brought ONLINE.

I guess default spooling in hp-ux is BSD type.
