use os backup tape in another server

Is it possible to use OS backup tape in another server ?

I made OS backup of HP-UX 11i and use the tape to restore OS into another server.

As mentioned, using Ignite/UX, specifically make_tape_recovery will create a bootable tape in a special format that allows you to cold install that backup on another server. Common Unix tools like tar, cpio, ax, dump will not work because it requires HP-UX to be previously installed to read the tape.

Do you mean that I can not use the tape if both servers are different ?

I made a backup tape from rp7410 and want to use it for N4000.

It's possible you can clone your system but if, on the origin server, you have some specific devices, you can have some errors with theses..
Also for disk that are specified by some paths that can change when you change a machine.
When you boot with Ignite tape, it's better to spefify the disk(s) that can host your system.

The Ignite tape is fairly compatible between different machines, BUT I/O is another story, specifically LANs and fibre channel. In the simplest form, the rp and the N-class can Ignite each other as long as you are using just the internal disks for HP-UX and the primary LAN is the built-in 10/100Base-T. On the other hand if source machine uses HP-UX on internal disks and the other uses a fibre channel disk array, perhaps with a switched fabric, redundant channel interface, etc, then the Ignite tape is likely going to have problems as the special drivers, daemons and programs won't be on the tape.
