Used HP-UX system upgrade with unknown licence number

I have got a used HP 9000 E45 server preinstalled with hp-ux 10.20. I have the oppurtunity to purchase hp-ux 11.00 media. Is there a way to upgrade if I don't have any licence numbers/info or activation codes?

Contact your local sales office. The HP-UX media is available for all 9000 series servers. No license is needed in order to purchase new media.

Yes I know that every hp-ux server comes with a 2-user licence. This computer was used by a company in an other country, I don't know them, and I don't have any information on the computer just that is now works fine. Probably the local sales office don't give me the media if I don't have a support contract with HP. The question is, if I get the media, there will be any problems installing. Will the installer ask questions about licence numbers and so on? And if I do a clean install?

Gabor,
You can do a "clean" OS install with no problems. However, You will need "code words" for any licensed software product - like mirror-ux, glancePlus, etc. since You will need versions for 11.X. These products can be loaded after the OS is installed.
Later.
If you can focus your eyes far and straight enough ahead of yourself, you can see the back of your head.

Re: Used HP-UX system upgrade with unknown licence number

In this system there are only a few non HP software installed, and in German language, so I'm not interested in them. I'd like to use this computer for trying a "real" old-fashioned unix-based system. I'd like to do a clean install because I think the current is screwed up a bit, the previous owner removed som confidental data and programs very abruptly. I dont' like to purchase any software but the core os and install cds. There are any software on them that requires these "code words"? Are they essential for basic learning?

And one more, minor system upgrades can be downloaded or they are only available on cds?
