We are trying to build a A500 server using a make_recovery tape from a A180C. The A180C is running 10.20. (I don't want to get into why) I have verified that I can read from the tape, but when I try to boot off of it on the A500 it goes right to the ISL> after seeing the boot INSTALL come up. (I did answer No to interact with IPL) Any ideas, or can anyone verify that what I'm trying to do is impossible?
Ye who thinks he has a lot to say, probably shouldn't.

Solution
In technical terms "that dog won't hunt." Unlike the A180C, the A400 and A500 ONLY run 64-bit OS's -- which 10.20 definitely ain't.
You would have the same problem trying to load 32-bit 11.11.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Thanks Clay, for some reason I had thought the A500 could be 32 bit, but you are as usual correct. Thanks again. Time to build server from scratch.....

Re: Using make_recovery tape from A180C to build A500
Hi -
Please try to get an ignite server in your data center. and have all the installs of 10.20/11.0/11.11 all from the same system.
And you do not have to start from scratch. You will have everything in less than 1.5 hrs. All patches/products/security/mirroring etc on your OS. You just have to create some files systems and some users, and you can move forward. Hope this helps, point is just faster deployment, without any headache. You may have and existing OS or you may not have any OS in the system, still you can build a full blown system.
Thanks
Pratyush
