Can I use a "make_tape_recovery" created on an L class machine, on a D class machine?

Solution
Hi,
I believe it is not possible. L class is a true 64 bit hardware and can run only 64 bit 11.0/11i.
But D class runs both 32 and 64 bit 11.0/11i
The catch here is that INSTALL kernel used for these two systems are different
The kernels are
WINSTALL - used for all the systems that are ONLY 64 bit (N, L , A etc)
INSTALL â used for systems that can run BOTH 32 and 64 bit HP-UX (K,D,R etc)
VINSTALL â used for V-Class systems
So, you will end up in the kernel rebuilding failure.
Hope this helps

Re: Using make_tape_recovery ignite tape on different machines
make_tape_recovery makes a copy of tyhe current computer system including installed drivers and modules. SInce this backup is not a complete installation system, using it on the D-class would fail because the hardware is very different. The majority of D-class server models are not 64-bit capable so the 64bit-only L-class image will fail to load if the hardware is 32bit only.
