Forumers,
I´m no sure this is the proper forum for the question but here it goes: Anyone tried to use HDs from other vendors (ex. Sun) on HP 9000 hardware sucessfuly? We tried to use HDs from sun boxes on a L1000 and it worked. BUT.... how it will behave in the case of firmware update?
Thanks in advance,
Fili

Solution
Hi,
I have put 2 x 9GB (Seagate ST39102LC) disks in a hass at home on a C160. The disks work fine, but the firmware is IBM. Not a major problem for a home system or test system, but HP support tools don't like them and I am unable to get HP firmware for them as it is put on in the factory. I doubt HP will support them in your system either.
Check out the thread I posted when I got my disks.

Hope that helps.
Regards,
Dave.

Re: Using Solaris HDs on a L1000
I wouldn't ever update the drive firmware.
Other firmware updates should pose no problems. Normally HP boxes are very tolerant of other vendors equipment as long as you don't mix incompatible hardware (e.g. using LVD SCSI drives on an HVD SCSI bus). You will also find that you will have much greater success using the "outlaw" drives as data disks rather than boot disks.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
