/usr/newconfig

Can anyone explain the purpose of the /usr/newconfig directory. I have approx 30Mb of data in it. It looks like previous sw directories that have been updated. If that is, can it be cleaned up after a period of time. I have a HP9000/K200 running 10.20.

Re: /usr/newconfig

the /usr/newconfig sub-directory tree contains the default copies of all your various system configuration files. E.g. /usr/newconfig/etc/rc.config.d has default value copies of all your /etc/rc.config.d configuration files. You should be able to delete the entire sub-tree, but if you need to go back to a default version, then you won't have it.

Re: /usr/newconfig

Hi James:

/usr/newconfig holds templates for a variety of configuration files that you customize. This is the place that patches will deposit new versions so that your customized ones will not be overridden. I would NOT remove the contents of this directory. The files can be used for comparative purposes (i.e. to do a 'diff') and/or to restore default behavior.
