vgexport/vgimport proble
I'm trying to run a vgexport on a HP-UX 11.00 system that shows the file system as vxfs version 3 and then import on a HP-UX 11.23 system that has vxfs verion 5. The proble is I need the import to bring the file system up as a version 3 not version 5. The reason is that I use EMC snapview for clones from the vxfs version 5 system to the vxfs version 3 system and the version 3 system will not work with vesion 5. any ideas?

Re: vgexport/vgimport proble
Shalom,
You OS is not supported and vxfs 5 is probably not supported on 11.00 HP-UX.
Your options are punt.
Perhaps upgrade the 11.00 system and then vxfs.
Downgrade the filesystem owned by the 11.23 system.
No really good options here.
I'm getting the fun questions today.

Re: vgexport/vgimport proble
thanks,
how would I down grade the file system on the 11.23 system? I can't upgrade the 11.00 system.

Re: vgexport/vgimport proble
Downgrade is not recommended!
Here the table wich describes the compatibility between the different File System Versions. In your case it is important what for Disk Layout Version (DLV) there is (#check with fstyp -v /dev/vg??/lvol??)
VxFS vers OS DLV supported
--------------------------------------------------------------------
VxFS 3.1 11.0 2, 3
VxFS 3.3 11.0 2, 3, 4
VxFS 3.3 11.11 2, 3, 4
VxFS 3.5 11.11 2, 3, 4
VxFS 3.5 11.23 2, 3, 4, 5
VxFS 4.1 11.23 4, 5, 6
With VxFS 3.3 on 11.00 system you have chanses if you have the layout version 4.
