View of MS Office docs / Netscape

Hi,
Is there any software for HP-UX 11.00 that would enable users to at least view MS Office documents (doc, xls, ppt) - like e.g. Sun's StarOffice? This would help users that read their e-mail on HP-UX, not on PCs.
Anyway, is there any new binary code for HP-UX 11.00 of netscape/mozilla? The version we currently have is Netscape 4.72. I checked the HP-UX porting archives as well as Netspace / mozilla web sites but I could only find older versions or binaries only for Win, MAC and Linux.
Thanks a lot.

Re: View of MS Office docs / Netscape

Have another look on the netscape site, there is Netscape version 6 for HP-UX 11 - were running it and its working fine.

I dont yet know of anyone who has managed to successfully compile the source for StarOffice on HP-UX 11, sorry. I gave up.

Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: View of MS Office docs / Netscape

Hi,

you can try these apps:

You might want to download GNOME 1.4 for HP-UX:

http://www.software.hp.com/products/GNOME/specs.html

This should include apps like AbiWord (which should be able to read simple word docs) and Gnumeric (spreadsheet).

Another simple viewer for word documents is mswordview (have not tested it on HP-UX):

http://hpux.asknet.de/hppd/hpux/Text/mswordview-0.5.2/

Or you might want to try to compile yourself current versions of AbiWord and Gnumeric. Found this page with instructions:

http://cloud.prohosting.com/patos/

Good luck!

Well, yeah ... I suppose there's no point in getting greedy, is there?

Maros,

You can download Netscape 6/7 directly from HP here:

Re: View of MS Office docs / Netscape

look at gnome for hpux 11.00 :

it contains the following :

Abiword & Gnumeric which allow you to view *.doc & *.xls docs respectively

ps OE 5.0 for hpux also has oexpress which works under X too .... a nice front end for their emails .

Re: View of MS Office docs / Netscape

If I understood correctly - gnome will replace my CDE environment, which I do not want to do. I suppose installing B6848BA alone would not help. I guess I would need to install both B6848BA and B6852BA to be able to view the doc and xls files.
I just would like to install the viewers of doc and xls files. Are Abiword and Gnumeric also available in separate packages?
Thanks

Re: View of MS Office docs / Netscape

no gnome won't exactly replace CDE, it will give your users the choice to login via CDE or gnome at the gnome login screen.

However if you prefer, looking at the gnome depot abiword is bundled separately as
Abisuite as is Gnumeric under the main gnome 1.4 depot you should be able to install these separately BUT may have dependencies to resolve ... personnally I'd install gnome, not configure it to work at system boot ie dont alter the /etc/rc.config/desktop file and just use the command line to fire off abiword and gnumeric gui's

ie /opt/gnome/bin/abiword &

Alex,
Thanks. This should work then. I thought I assigned points too quickly (indicating even a "magical" answer)and therefore I posted another message in order to get answer to my question.

Re: View of MS Office docs / Netscape

"antiword" is a nice converter from DOC to PostScript or ASCII:

It also works under HP-UX 10.20.
