Virtual/RAM disks on HP-UX 11?

Hi,

Is it possible to configure RAM disks (ie a portion of physical RAM allocated as fast storage) on HP-UX 11.00, much like the good old DOS 'RAMDISK' command?

We've got a requirement for some fast temporary storage, but I feel that SSD's might be a bit pricey for this, so i'm looking at alternative methods.

cheers,
neil.

Re: Virtual/RAM disks on HP-UX 11?

I think there was a thread regarding this in the Forums at one point, but I can't find it yet.

In the mean time, here is some information from TKB document A4070179

**********************
date: 3/13/97
document description: Sys Adm: Use RAM disk at 10.x; not supported in any HP-UX release.

Problem Description

I want to set up a RAM disk, but I can't find any documentation about it. Does HP-UX support the use of a RAM disk?

Configuration Info

Operating System - HP-UX
Version -10.01
Hardware System -735

Solution

No. There is no support for using a RAM disk in any HP-UX release, including 8.x, 9.x and 10.x. Using a RAM disk may interfere with the support
services outlined in your service contract.
