Visualize-EG(4a) Display Card Configuration

I have a D390 with a HP Visualize-EG(4a) Display Adapter connected to a 19" monitor. I wish to change the monitor to a 15" monitor. I have tried just replacing the monitor, but it does not work. In SAM I cannot find where to change the display resolution settings. The 15" screen has a maximum resolution capability of 1024X768, compared to the existing screen which runs at 1280X1024.
Can someone please tell me where to change the display settings.

Unfortunately only some HP monitors are supported with D-class graphics cards, but it does not mean that others will not work. You can try going into PDC (when you reboot server it says 'press any key within 10 seconds' so press space bar and search within menus (configuration or information) for command looking like 'monitor'). This command is present in workstations, but may be present in this server. If yes, this is a place to change monitor type

Re: Visualize-EG(4a) Display Card Configuration

Hi Ugan,

in SAM:
Choose 'Display'
Double-Click 'Monitor Configuration'
Then select your graphic card and under 'Action' should be the possibility to choose 'Modify Monitor Type'.

Then you should get a window with all options of monitor types your graphic card is supporting.

Good luck

The problem is that in SAM, under display configuration, I do not have the option for Monitor Configuration; only the X-Server Configuration option.

You certainly are hpux 10.20.
You can change resolution with sam only on hpux 11.
The only way to change is then reboot your machine, wait for the keyboard to be activated (the num light is on), then press the tab key.
That will make the card change every few seconds its configuration. When you can see some text, follow the instruction to save the configuration.

Re: Visualize-EG(4a) Display Card Configuration

There are probably two issues at play here. One is that you need to use the utility setmon to change what the graphics card uses for a resolution setting. This utility is in /opt/graphics/common/bin/.

The second is that while most workstations have the ability to save the monitor setting in stable storage, many of the servers do not. This means that upon poweron or reboot you have have to set the resolution again.

Make sure that you have PHKL_19910 kernel patch o n this system or a successor. It has a fix for the situation above for 10.20. From the patch documentation:

PHKL_19910:
(SR: [8606103444/STARS/English] CR: JAGab14299)
Changes to the monitor type made by SAM or setmon will now persist across reboots.
