Re: visualize workstation
The B132L does have an external single-ended SCSI connector - you should be able to use pretty much any external SCSI CD-ROM. You will need to do the following steps:
1) Connect the CD-ROM and insert the CD into the drive. For a B132L, you will need a 10.20 Core OS CD dated July 1997 or later, or any 11.0 or 11i CD should work.
2) Power on the B132L. When you get to the part where it says "Press any key to interrupt the boot sequence or wait 15 seconds to continue", press the space bar. You should get into the boot admin prompt.
3) type SEARCH -- this will search for bootable devices. You should see at least two devices, one for the internal disk and one for the CD-ROM device. These will be labeled with P0, P1, P2, etc, and in the far right column you should see the SCSI device identifier strings indicating which device is which.
4) Type BOOT P# -- where P# is the appropriate device label for your CD-ROM device. When it asks you to interact with the IPL, enter "n".
5) Follow the menus on the installation CD.

Re: visualize workstation
I did what you said, after I connect the External CD -ROM, power up the machine, on the admin prompt when I did the SEARCH COMMAND, I got two devices, the internal disk and the CD_ROm. When I type BOOT P1 ( P0 is the HD). booting then says "boot device is not ready"
Retrying boot device" this countinus. Any idea what is the problem.
Thank you

Solution1) Check the termination and it you are using an external terminator make certain that the drives internal termination is off.
2) This is single-ended scsi; keep cable lengths short.
SCSI works surprisingly well if either of these rules are violated; just well enough to drive you nuts!

Re: visualize workstation
I assume that you have made certain that you have set the SCSI ID's so that they do not conflict. I'm beginning to suspect that your original hard drive was okay but that your controller is bad. I think you better get your HP service guy back out.
