Hi,
I am getting the following error in syslog file
on N-class server.
Sep 26 22:02:58 ctxap3 vmunix: LPMC type : I-Cache Parity Error.


Any idea ?

RESOLUTION

I-cache errors are Instruction cache errors. The Instruction cache is the area on the CPU where instructions sets of frequently run code are loaded
from main memory for easier, quicker access. I-cache errors occur when there is
a problem pulling an instruction, or set of instructions, from this cache
memory. This invariably points to a CPU issue (CPU probably needs replacement).

Usually, one or two errors are not a problem - it usually indicates that at that particular time an instruction, or set of instructions, was/were not
successfully accessed. But if there are many errors, it could be due to other
factors such as power surges, hardware failure, or system environment. If you
are getting many errors, it should be looked at and corrected, as it can lead
to a High Priority Machine Check (HPMC) and a possible system halt/panic.

Since this error is most likely due to a CPU failure, and to avoid a possible
system halt, please contact the Hardware Support Team so they can schedule a Customer Engineer (CE) visit to replace the CPU.

I don't think you can deconfigure a CPU without rebooting the machine.

Here are instructions for disabling the CPU on an N class, taken from TKB document UXDNKBRC00001415. These instructions do require a reboot.

N class processor deconfiguration procedure:

Boot or reboot the server(ctrl b then "rs") and interrupt the boot process when prompted to hit press any key within 10 seconds. From the BCH Main Menu, enter SER to get to the SERvice menu. The service menu command to configure/deconfigure a processor is CPUconfig:

CPU ON|OFF

The server will need to be restarted with the "RESET" command for changes to
take affect.
