VNC for HP-UX 11.0

Hi,

I have get a software "essential tools" (filename: essential.depot.gz) from the below site
http://www.ifost.org.au/Software/

It is a freeware. After install VNC server on HP-UX, we can use the VNC windows client to access X windows application of server. But, I do not know it has any impact for the server.

Can anyone use it before or do you have any suggestion which can be act as X windows on PC and free of charge?

Thanks

Regards,
Wendy

Re: VNC for HP-UX 11.0

The actual usage of the X server on the HPUX server is minimal. The process (/usr/dt/bin/dtlogin) uses a small amount of memory, hardly any CPU. The usage basically consists of each shell session or process that is used.

You can get VNC from here:

Re: VNC for HP-UX 11.0

Yes, I have already get VNC but do not know it is supported to install on HP-UX 11.0 or not.

I want to use a software which only need to install on the client side and not on the server side.

Does anyone know any freeware for it?

Re: VNC for HP-UX 11.0

Is it supported on hpux 11.00, well it works well but in terms of do HP support it ... not that I'm aware, saying that this forum and the vnc forum/faq's covers most issues.

As to an alternative ... you'd be looking for a free eqivalent to ReflectionX or Exceed which install on the PC but use XDMCP to connect to the dtlogin process on the server and allow remote X window connections.

Re: VNC for HP-UX 11.0

I downloaded a depot version compiled for HP-UX at
ftp://ftp.cup.hp.com/dist/networking/tools/RealVNC_r3.3.7.1.depot.gz
which I (sw)installed on HP-UX 11.11.

I only had to uncomment and modify line 153 (concerning the font path) in
/opt/realvnc/bin/vncserver
(added the path to our fontserver: "tcp/OurFontServer:7000")

The following connections were tested successfully:
W2K/VNC-viewer -> HP-UX/VNC-server
HP-UX/VNC-viewer -> W2K/VNC-server

Re: VNC for HP-UX 11.0

VNC works well on HP-UX as a server and a client. It is not support by HP, but rather is an OpenSource product.

Tridia has a version of VNC that you can buy and obtain support from Tridia. I suspect that there are other vendors out there as well.

A similar product is GraphOn's GoGlobal, with a server that runs on HP-UX and a thin client on Windows PCs.

The freeware cygwin package includes the Xfree86 X server for PCs. You can get it from

Detlev i downloaded teh depot from the link you provided, thank you. Do you or anyone know if this is an Enterprise version or what is it? Sorry I am not too familiar with VNC and just started researching it.
