vPar limitation

Is there a limiation on the number of vpars that could be used on rp7410 and rp8400 ??

My understanding is that you can assign as many vpars as far as you have enough I/O to accomodate.

Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks

Re: vPar limitation

well it also depends on whether you have the free vpars product, or have purchased the full producty.
From the manual at http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/T1335-90018/T1335-90018.html:

The free product has the following limitations not present in the purchased product:

the maximum number of virtual partitions is two

the first partition created must have only one CPU dedicated to it. No additional CPUs can be allocated to this partition at any time

My house is the bank's, my money the wife's, But my opinions belong to me, not HP!

Re: vPar limitation

On the 7400 (N-class) server I have had 6 partitions, today I have 5. I have 5 today because I needed to build a partition with more "horse-power". HP only recommends a mximum of 4, but when was the last time I followed anyone's recommendations :-??

Your limitations, providing you "purchase" vPars, will be based upon the number of CPU's, Memory, Disk IO and Lan Card (external IO slots). The most important is the IO slots.

If you have 16 external IO slots, and each partition needs requires 2 disk IO cards and one LAN card, then you can get five (16/3) partitions, but if you also use the internal disks and built in LAN card, then you can get 6 partitions. It basically comes down to simple math.

Of course, Itanium ready servers can not use vPar's at this time - hopefully in the future it will be ready.
