Re: vPAR requirement

Dear bond,

1. the server should be a cell based one.

2. one cell borad per vPAR is reqd

3. atleast one CPU per cellboard per Vpar

4. disks connected to different LBAs for each vPAR.

With Regards,

Siva.

Re: vPAR requirement

The server does NOT have to be cell based, but must be one of the supported servers.
You require the correct version of Vpars for the OS version you will install on teh Vpars.
If it is an Integrity Server, you need to check the firmware has been updated to one that supports Vpars.

For each Vpar, you need a minimum of 1 cpu, 1 lan card, and 1 disc boot path.
If you have a multifunction card like a 100Baset Lan and SCSI card in one, then this card can be used for both Lan and Boot disc.

There should also be enough memory to run the OS, minimum of 1Gb

Re: vPAR requirement

a) For performance reasons, HP recommends the following for the rp5470/L3000
and the rp700/N4000 when using vPars:

rp5470/L3000 - 2 Partitions
rp700/N4000 - 4 Partitions

For the latest information, please see the document HP-UX Virtual
Partitions Ordering and Configuration Guide available at:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/11i/index.html#Virtual%20Partitions
b) No Hardware Resources can be shared between partitions.
c) I/O Path's are assigned to partitions on LBA level (multifunction cards cannot be spread across partitions).
d) Each Partition must have at least a separate root disk and one CPU.
If you are not a part of solution , then you are a part of problem

Re: vPAR requirement

Any server abpve N-Class and I think rp4440 canbe vPar'd. Cell based or not.

In our experience, the minimum vPar config will require a CPU, at least 1GB or memory and one PCI slot. You may ask -- what about boot? Well if you use the newer FC+GigE cards - you only need one PCI slot and use a SAN/Fibre-Channel boot configuration.

Re: vPAR requirement

The rp4440 is not supported with vPars. While the non-cell based N and L class were supported with vPars, HP has lately only supported the cell based systems with vPars.
