VPar w/o network support

Hi, I need help.

I have to create a couple of vpars in a npar partition. The problem is: this npar is not connected to a switch.

Does anyone know if there is any issue in configuring vpars without network support?

I appreciate any help.

Best regards
Jose

Re: VPar w/o network support

creating a vpar isn't a big problem but if you try to boot them up then they won't be available on network.

It is just assigning resources to vpar and no outage to existing vpars.

Re: VPar w/o network support

Thanks for your reply.

I would like to know if I can vparload them all, even if they are out of the network.

I need to vparstatus them and eventually, for instance, set granularity.

Later I will configure network support.

Re: VPar w/o network support

To look at resource allocated to each vpar, you can do the following command:

vparstatus -v

would show all vpars in the Npar with status info and all resources allocated to each of them.

You don't have to bring them up to look at properties.

Re: VPar w/o network support

seems a bit pointles to me, but yes, you should be able to vparload them. But what will you get?
How do you intend to install the OS, from Tape?
and you mention change granularity "eventualyy"?
If you wish to change the default granule size this must be done whenthe FIRST Vpar is created, and uis then not modifiable unless you remove the vpdb and start again.

I repeat, what you are trying to do seems pointless to me

Re: VPar w/o network support

Jose,

If I understand you correctly you have created the new vPars and you need to boot them. If there is no running OS on the boot drives for your new vPars then you need to install one for each vPar. If there is no network support then you must use an ignite tape on a tape drive dedicated to the vPar or install directly from DVD again on a DVD player dedicated to the vPAr. You can confgure networking for any nPar or vPar at anytime or not at all if you so choose.

Re: VPar w/o network support

Depending on the type of server and the vPar version used it may be not allowed to boot a vPar from tape.
What do you want to do with a server without network connection?

Ar least in 11.31 the initial set_parms script will tell you

"lan0 can't be configured, interface is down"

if there is nothing connected.
So network is not set up, related tools (e.g. swinstall) will not work.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
