vxupgrade

On one of my 11.00 boxes I've just come to use acls and it appears I dont have JFS 3.3 (B3929CA) installed so after a full backup I intend to install it and patch it.
Because currently it's :-
fstyp -v /dev/vg01/lu01
vxfs
version: 3

I will need todo
vxupgrade -n 4 /filsystem

My question is what will this do to all my data on that file system when I upgrade it ???

Re: vxupgrade

Hi:

According to the man pages, the process should take only a few seconds during which the filesystem will be frozen. Some additional space is required for the upgrade but this will be returned to the filesystem at the end. See the man pages (1M) for 'vxupgrade' for calculation of the additional space needs.

Re: vxupgrade

In a word, nothing. Your data should be OK.

General advice though is:
1. ensure your patched up to date.
2. ensure that every filesystem has about 10% of free space available. vxupgrade needs to use the free space in order to do the upgrade.

Re: vxupgrade

Thanks James for that,

I take it my data should be ok then?
I'm a bit nervous at the moment as we have have a dozen consultants in working on this box and the last thing I want to do is have to restore back all their app data.

Re: vxupgrade

hi,

I full agree that there 'should' be no impact, but I would alway add step 3.

3. ensure you have a recent backup ...

Re: vxupgrade

Hi Andy:

As always, you should backup your filesystem beforehand. Having done that, you are assured that all will work as expected. In the absence of a backup things will invariably fail when they shouldn't! ;-)

Re: vxupgrade

everything should be fine.

*non-OS file systems
*sufficient space on the file system

//Backup//
