I recently installed 11i on a rp5400 sseries server. this is a fresh installation. while booting the "CVM VVR starting communication deamon" shows failed. I checked the rclog and it says "exit code 253, vxnm-vxnetd start failed."
I also get errors for the Vxvm restore daemon.
vxconfigd: ERROR enable failed: volboot file not loaded transactions r disabled
FATAL ERROR: rootdg cannot be imported during boot vold is not enabled .....
I tried applying the patch PHCO_25837 but no luck ...
Has anyone come across such error and knows the resolution please let know....
TIA
Ajit

Re: VXVM error on 11i
I am not sure if you are trying to recover rootdg? Here is the link and document that might help. Search this by DOC ID on ITRC.

Hope this will help.
Thanks,

SolutionFirst check local name resolution:
nslookup
nslookup
Does it resolve properly both ways?
These errors occur because the VxVM start-up scripts are being run but the VxVM
rootdg is not initialized.
If VxVM is not being used on this server touch the following file to prevent
the VxVM scripts from running:
/etc/vx/reconfig.d/state.d/install-db
If VxVM is to be used then run
touch /etc/vx/reconfig.d/state.d/install-db
followed by
vxinstall
to configure rootdg.

Tracy

Re: VXVM error on 11i
If you are not using the Veritas VxVm for rootdg, check for the presense of file /etc/vx/reconfig.d/state.d/install-dba and if not present touch the file.
You should be ok not next reboot.
Thanks.
Prashant.
