VxVM with rootdg mirror
We are running Veritas VxVM on our root volume Group instean of LVM with rootdg beining mirrored.
I am getting ready to apply the December 2004 GOLDQPK on the server and would like to break the mirror and apply the patches so that if there is an issue I can reboot from the origional mirror.
With Veritas VxVM what are the steps I need to perform to break the mirror and then apply the patches ?
Then after we confirm all is ok, do I just re-setup the mirror ??

Re: VxVM with rootdg mirror
Hi Mike,
I think the vxdg split and join commands might work. But i don't think there is a documented procedure on how to do this and how to recover from a failure.
The vxdiskadm menu does not list this as a default functionality.
"vxdctl license" will tell you if this funcionality is enabled. If you see "DGSJ" listed in the output, you have the "Disk Group Split/Join license" enabled.
However, if it were me, either I would not do this at all, or would get a documented procedure from HP before trying this.
Hope this helps.

Re: VxVM with rootdg mirror
The VxVM Disk Split and Join features are only active if you have the Flashsnap license.
I cannot tell you how to do this on HP-UX11i although I think one way is to simply unplug/de-presnt your mirror disk/lun.
We are in the final planning stages of switching to VxVM as our main Volume Manager on our 11i Systems connected to Heterogenous Arrays (EVA, HSG80 and XP Systems..). And it looks like the way we will proceed is:
1. boot disk will remain under LVM Control and mirrored
2. All others will be VxVM based
3. rootDG will be on an extra pair of SCSI disks (DS2100/2110) and will contain an extra swap volume.
