Want to check Disks functionality thouroughly.

I have few disks available and connected to the machine. which I haven't used since long time. Now I want to use these disks.
Is there any way to check the disks thoroughly before I place data in it.

Can I do it using HP stm or any other possible tools?

You can use dd in order to read from /dev/rdsk/disk1 and write to /dev/rdsk/disk2.

Check errors during this phase ...

Use STM (XSTM). This is proper diagnostic tool for logging all hardware problem. Once youve got it running (if installed - its called DIAGNOSTICS on the Support Plus CD) go to TOOLS -> UTILITY -> RUN Select LOGTOOL and view the raw or formatted summary log for lists of all hardware problems. If a disk is on its way out errors will be logged here. This should be the first indication of an impending disk failure

xstm (or stm ) should have exercise options under the expert tools area.

tools > exercise > run
tools > expert tools > info

To run Expert tools you'll need a HP only licence (as your rep)

Which Version?
If it is the latest one on 11.00 it should not ask for reboot. But if it is on HP-UX 10.20 it will reboot.

Checek the disk with #ncheck -surface.
