SolutionA very good, free, online encylopedia (and more!) is Wikipedia.

For your specific question, see here:

Re: What is RSS feed ?
RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like CNN, BBC news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But it's not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the "recent changes" page of a wiki, a changelog of CVS checkins, even the revision history of a book. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.
A good text book on RSS

http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3A+RSS&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
You can search with google using format as,
define:
to get definition.

Re: What is RSS feed ?
RSS is a lightweight, multipurpose extensible metadata description and syndication format. RSS is an acronym for RDF Site Summary, Rich Site Summary or Real Simple Syndication. RSS is an XML application, conforms to the W3C's RDF Specification and is extensible via XML-namespace and/or RDF based modularization.
What does this mean? Basically, it's a way to publish (syndication) data.
There is also today an RSS news aggregator which can pull it all together on the desktop. Sort of like building your own newspaper from whatever sources you want.
hope this helps!
kind regards
