Re: What is the "sam" command?
the sam is the System Admin manager for sys admin .
i think that the want you to install it with sam or you can install it without sam with the comand swinstall .
but you need a depot for installing with swinstall .
from where did you download it because i look at : http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/ and didnt found it .
i install few days ago the java 1.3 .
but it doesnt look the same .
where he is writing to install it with sam ?

Re: What is the "sam" command?
You can also simply execute 'swinstall' which SAM itself calls. swinstall can be run from a terminal or GUI in interactive mode or as a command with arguments. The interactive method is easier for beginners.

Re: What is the "sam" command?
Although all the functions can be done with line commands, SAM has been getting smarter over the years and can do almost everything a system admin needs to do with a simple interface.

Re: What is the "sam" command?
As said before SAM is a very useful tool for system administration, some of the SAM areas are:-
SAM Accounts for Users and Groups ->
SAM Auditing and Security ->
SAM Backup and Recovery ->
SAM Disks and File Systems ->
SAM Display ->
SAM Kernel Configuration ->
SAM Networking and Communications ->
SAM Performance Monitors ->
SAM Peripheral Devices ->
SAM Printers and Plotters ->
SAM Process Management ->
Other Resource Management ->
SAM Routine Tasks ->
SD-UX Software Management ->
As you are based in the UK contact either your HP reseller or HP at Bracknell and arange a Basic sysadmin course which cover SAM.
